:+:Studio Sidhe:+: Elven Anklets

ss

So, it's been a weird week.

For me, anyway. Of course, there's only weirdness if you're looking for it, so maybe I'm making too much of things. Still, it feels like I just HAD to do today's post. The fates were guiding me toward it. Here's the breakdown:

1. I've had this urge all week to break out my wings in SL, but just can't find the time!

2. Faery Sola pops on early Wednesday morning to let me know about a new release. Elven Anklets, specifically. They're unisex, for all you fae girls and boys out there. More on that later.

3. Thursday morning I'm watching America's Next Top Model from the night before, which my room mate had to tape for me because I was working. Allison (my fave!!) aka Creepy-Chan mumbles from her bed after an early morning wake up that she looks like a 'woodland creature'. Hmmm... seeing the pattern?

Ok, maybe not. Maybe it's just my own personal weirdness. I mean, this subliminal urge to go fae? Faery's distinctly fae release? Creepy-chan's definite message meant FOR ME to think about woodland creatures? Hmmm? Whatever, there are forces in the universe bigger than all of us.

Either way you look at it, Studio Sidhe's latest are perfect for springtime. FINALLY the weather is changing and all we have to do is wait for all that green to come out. Faery's anklets are really meticulously detailed and colorful. There's a scripted sizing feature built in for customization, and while these were made specifically with SLinks prim footsies in mind, they work with just regular foots as well.

I've always been a huge fan of Studio Sidhe, with its huge range of really detailed and imaginative accessories, fae or no. Still, if you're feeling a little buzzy from the warm sun and maybe hear the rustle of some woodland feet, maybe it's time to explore your fae side. Faery's Elven Anklets are a great place to start.

Lovely lovely lovely.

:+:Studio Sidhe:+:~Flower Bangles

flowerbangles

I am totally into these bangles. Like, almost hypnotized into. Seriously, I mean, just look at them. Is that like a cat or something in there? I could be, I mean, is it supposed to be there? Do you see what I'm talking about?

Maybe it's not actually there. It could just be an optical illusion... y'know, like when you used to make faces in the clouds all summer? It could be something like that.

Whoa, see what I mean? You can totally get sucked into these, right? Wow. Hypnotic. Totally. How is that even possible?

Seriously, this is Second Life, right? It's two-dimensional. It's not real at all (wow, now there's an argument I don't want to start!). So how how how is it even remotely possible to make something like this? What can I even say to add to this?

Simply, Faery Sola makes some of the absolute best accessories in SL. I'm always blown away by her detail and prim work, and of course Studio Sidhe is a bling free zone, which is always WIN! Faery's 'Flower Bangles' are so real you can almost feel their cool touch on your wrist, and the painted designs are just perfect.

So... just go there. I'll grab you by the arm and take you there myself if you're nervous.

:+:Studio Sidhe:+: Silver Nose Chain with Bells

nosepierce

I had a conversation the other day with a designer friend about art in Second Life. Well, art and design actually. Ok, art, design and content creation in Second Life; and technically it wasn't a designer, but they work for a designer. Whatever. There was a conversation anyway. Basically, we ended up getting to the subject of how important commerce was within the artistic community in Second Life. Would content creators create if there was no profit incentive.

His response was kind of cynical: "No," he said. Now, I'm not a business owner, and so I know there are a lot of technical things that probably go into it. 'No' is probably not as cynical an answer as I thought at the time.... sooo, of course I posted the question on Plurk. There I got more of a 'yes, kinda' list of responses, but of course things like covering tier costs were mentioned and I get that. I think the whole point of my original conversation actually was just to explore the idea of art for art's sake. I'm not anti-capitalist or anything... and of course I think there are a LOT of designers in SL who certainly deserve recognition and even compensation for their work and contributions. In that group, though, I think there's love too.

Twyla Tharp said "Art is the only way to run away without leaving home", and I think that's a pretty good definition of Second Life. If SL was only an artistic forum, who would be left? How can you tell?

Quality, basically. Anyone can find a way to make a few $L in SL, if you work at it. The designers that go a little bit above what they need to I think understand that it's art. Faery Sola from Studio Sidhe falls into that group. Not just happy to make accessories and jewelry, Faery makes quality accessories and jewelry. Not only that, it's work that is so unique and detailed, it's more than just something to buy, each piece is a little story about the designer herself. YES it's for sale... but it's more than just products. I think this would be something we'd see whether or not there were bills to pay.

Studio Sidhe's Silver Nose Chain with Bells is a gorgeous, quality piece made with obvious attention and just screaming Faery. Easy to accessorize with her Silver Filigree set I blogged back in December (see it here), the work is beautiful, and the detailing is something totally amazing. It's art.

:+:Studio Sidhe:+: Silver Filigree Set

Finding jewelry in Second Life isn't easy...

Oh, sure, for YOU it might be. I mean, there are TONS of designers making jewelry in SL, even as we speak. There's your leather chokers and neko collars, blingy diamond broaches and strings of prim pearls. You can find jewelry made from twine or barbed wire or flowers even. It's all there, I know THAT, but it's not all for ME.

No, see, I've got a problem looking for jewelry in SL. Of course, there's my bling allergy; I'm pretty sure it's fatal. And then there's the fact that I don't like diamonds. (WHA? b-b-but diamonds are a girls best friend! How...?) Yah, well... whatever.. (now EMERALDS! hehe). Okay, back to the point, right? I can't spend a lot of time popping around SL looking for good jewelry. Half the time it's a little too flashy for my tastes or you just run into the problem of fitting it right. Ugh.

Anyway, so I've got simple tastes, but that doesn't mean I'm not always looking for well made, beautifully designed accessories. For that, well, Faery Sola of Studio Sidhe manages to hook me every time. This week she dropped her new Silver Filigree Set and THIS is what I'm talking about. The designs are just lovely, with woven silver earrings and matching pendant, just so interesting to look at. The texture looks so real you can almost feel the weight (and these feel light! Would probably be horribly expensive in RL). There's a matching bracelet that attaches to your wrist and hand, and you can almost feel the cool metal against your skin. I tried my hardest to do these justice in my pictures, so if you think they look good here, then just WAIT till you see them in SL. Faery's designs are lovely, almost organic and obviously the product of some hard work and eye for design.

Faery makes LOTs of stuff too. At her mainstore you'll find not just accessories (for the boys too!) but poses, outfits and some other clothing. If you haven't visited, you definitely should.
